Jennifer Baker / KILN-FORMED GLASS

Jennifer is a glass artist in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She lived in the Midwest before moving to Colorado in 2007. Her creative instincts would not be fully realized until she was immersed in the colors, lights and shadows of the rich mountain landscapes, expansive skies and crystal waters of the west that inspire her work.

That inspiration is best expressed in the medium of glass. The subtlety of the colors, the reflections and the translucency of light on and through the glass, and the uncertainty of the final piece bring that world into works that range from impressionistic landscapes to sculpture. Fascinated with a process that can be unpredictable, Jennifer manipulates the placement of the glass to represent major shapes, and then layers and/or casts to create textures and interferences that scatter light.

Jill Bergman / LINOCUT AND MONOTYPE PRINTS

Jill Bergman’s linocut relief prints use texture, line work, pattern, and contrast to create dynamic and playful images. Relief prints are created by carving artist linoleum with small tools. The image is drawn backwards and the areas that won’t print are carved away. Ink is rolled onto the raised image, paper is laid over the top, and it is run through an etching press. The final print can be painted with watercolor.

The Colorado landscape, wildlife, and decorative illustration influence Jill’s style. Her original prints and illustrations are in demand in the Steamboat Springs area and she often works with non-profits promoting environmental awareness. The summer of 2019, Jill completed an 850 square foot mural for Friends of the Yampa. This project brought 120 community members together to help paint and install the Yampa Is Wild mural in downtown Steamboat Springs.

ATTILA FESZT / ACRYLIC, GRAPHITE, AND INK

Attila Feszt was born in Nassau, Bahamas, in 1976 and has drawn for as long as he can remember. He studied in the UK and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA (Hons) in History of Art and Design with Graphic Design in 1999.

By observing the natural world around us through a background of drawing, screen-printing, graphic design and comic book illustration, he seeks to bring attention to simple objects that are familiar, yet presented in a way that bypasses our preconceived notions about what the object is. In this modern age we are so used to seeing the world around us in its infinite and often chaotic state, these defined shapes can get lost in the beautiful noise of our lives. To turn a well known idiom around - we can’t see the trees for the woods.

Shining the spotlight on certain parts of our world makes them stand out against the background. Through this exploration of organic shapes and patterns, he seeks to present these objects in a way which leads to seeing them with fresh eyes.

His work is inspired by the motto 'By reducing the world we make it larger.'

SANDY GRAVES / BRONZE

Sandy’s stylized sculpture is about energy and movement. Each piece starts with an emotion, the place where the being and their essence cross. The play between negative and positive space allows room for the viewer’s imagination to roam while accenting the parts that define the subject. Exaggeration of proportion coupled with open negative space creates a feeling of movement in bronze, which is traditionally a heavy and stagnate medium. It is Sandy’s hope that viewers feel the emotion that she felt as she created each piece.

PAULINA M. JOHNSON / PAPER ON EDGE

Paulina’s work is rooted in a minimalist design aesthetic and a genuine love of paper. She is inspired by nature and strives to capture its complexity and beauty with the simplest of elements—such as circles and lines. In her studio, she sees herself as a maker. By working with her hands, she finds a meditative sense of purpose. She believes paper has the ability to be both the story and the storyteller in a work of art. Much of what Paulina does is fueled by a curiosity to listen as strips of paper interact with their environment when pushed beyond the flat surface and out into the three-dimensional world of light and shadow.

Dedi Knox / WATERCOLOR AND OIL

Dedi Knox received a degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin with a watercolor specialty. She taught art for ten years, and learned that no matter the age, each artist brings their own life experiences to their artwork. As an instructor, she learned that fine materials, simple, motivational instruction, and practice are key to good results.

Whatever the subject, Dedi focuses on composition, texture, size, and color. Each painting has a unique process, fast or slow, opaque or transparent, light or dark, but discipline while painting can result in a type of magic.

Dedi moved to Steamboat Springs in 1994. She has had many shows, and received awards in Colorado and Wisconsin. She has been represented by Steamboat Springs galleries for 25 years, including Wild Horse Gallery, Circle Seven Fine Art, and now Pine Moon Fine Art. Dedi currently lives in Hahn’s Peak Village, a small community 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

JILL LEESON / MIXED MEDIA

Jill Leeson is a mixed media artist with an emphasis in water media. In art, water media is the combination of mediums that can be diluted with water. In her current collection, Jill uses acrylic, casein, gouache, watercolor pencils and oil pastels. With controlled spontaneity, thinned acrylic is poured onto canvas or wood panel and allowed to blend, then dry. Jill continues the painting by defining areas with brushwork to create realistic images.

Jill moved to Steamboat Springs in 1992. She finds inspiration for her paintings when she is outdoors skiing, cycling or hiking. She hopes to share hidden beauty with her viewers. Some things that may not be considered beautiful or worthy of an audience, like an old barn, a dandelion or a forest after a fire, she helps to remind us of nature and beauty that might otherwise be forgotten or looked over.
